A New Landmark within the Forbidden City Protected Zone | Responding with Heightened Sensitivity to its Historic Urban Context

故宫保护区内的“新地标”｜以高度敏感性与其所处的历史城区环境进行响应

Wangjing Alley is located in the Wangjing area of Chaoyang District, Beijing, adjacent to the west side of Dashan Bridge on the Airport Expressway. It connects to Wangjing Street in the north and Furong Street in the south, spanning over 360 meters in length and approximately 40 meters in width. The north and south sides of the alley are flanked by Vanke Times Center and Fangheng Shopping Center, respectively.

王府中环位于故宫保护区内，对这一敏感位置展现了极高的尊重。在32米的高限条件下（以凸显故宫的美景），大楼的高度向西逐渐降低，体现了对备受中国文化推崇的场所的尊重。王府中环虽将自己定位为该地区的最新式地标建筑，但仍在设计中引入了中国传统的基础、开间及屋顶建筑元素，通过各类材料及形式与历史建立联系。

Inside, the project creates a vibrant and diverse environment. The building, transcending its scale, is divided into eight 'zones,' featuring striking interstitial spaces like commercial arcades and soaring atriums. The hotel component (Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing) occupies the top two floors, boasting a series of rooftop gardens and terraces that offer breathtaking views of the Forbidden City to the west.

在内部，本项目打造出活力而多样的环境。大楼突破项目规模，分为八个“分区”，设有引人注目的孔隙空间，如商业拱廊及高耸的中庭。项目的酒店功能（王府井文华东方酒店）位于最高两层，拥有一系列屋顶花园及露台，可欣赏到西侧故宫的壮美景色。

The project preserves some of the area's rich history, reconstructing a traditional courtyard house (siheyuan) at the western end of the site and incorporating an elegant gatehouse at the southern entrance. The renovated structures create green spaces that attract pedestrian traffic. The southern gatehouse, with its graceful posture, is complemented by a harmonious glass curtain wall backdrop.

项目对该地区一些丰富的历史进行了保留，在基地西端重建一处四合院，并在南入口设有门楼。翻新后的房屋构建出绿地空间，用以吸引人行交通。南入口的门楼姿态优雅，后方采用玻璃幕墙打造出和谐统一的背景。
